SHL Group – Company visit in Taoyuan

On the 3rd of December, eight of the CITO representatives visited the SHL (Scandinavian Health Ltd) group in Taoyuan, Taiwan. SHL is currently the world’s largest privately-owned designer, developer and manufacturer of advanced drug delivery systems such as auto and pen injectors. The company is involved in the whole production line of their products, including design, manufacturing and testing. Since SHL produces lifesaving devices, the quality and precision of the products are two major factors. Therefore thorough quality tests are carried out to ensure that the products meet the set standards. During the visit we were invited to see the molding and tooling departments. The molding processes are automated, and accurate quality inspections are carried out by specialist workers in the field. The tooling department designs and manufactures the tools that are later used downstream in the production line. The production of the tools is a very capital intensive process and requires expertise to be able to meet the high levels of accuracy and precision necessary for the tools. At SHL we met Hugo af Klint, former CITO representative who completed his master thesis at SHL and later went back to work within the Quality Operations department at SHL. According to Hugo, SHL is a young dynamic company that is currently undergoing an interesting development phase. The company offers internships and opportunities to write a master thesis and is especially looking for students with engineering backgrounds.
